5 Powerful Steps for Creative Problem Solving.... Stride4 it!

Step 1 : 'S T' Set your Target
Know the direction you want to go in; your targret.  Ask youself 'why' that target.  This gets you thinking of your higher level targets and the benifits.  Do the why question 4 times over.  (That covers the 'ST and the '4' of stride4)
Now write down the target that you want to use.

Step 2 : The 'R' in stride4 is for 'Reality check'
There is more than one version of reality.
For creative results deal with this! :-)  Talk. Be receptive. Be frank.  This is where teamwork and comparing notes with others can get really productive.

Step 3 : 'i' ideas ... Lots of them
Focus on key benefits of your target and at the same time, your top reality check factor.  Now do this for other reality check factors and benifits.
This helps to trigger different ideas and ideas feed further ideas.

Step 4 : 'D' Develop
Build on your ideas.
Combine ideas.
Work out what might work.

Step 5 : 'E' Engage
Find efficient ways to make exciting developments real.
'Engage' to get fast feedback.
Power ahead using your findings for your next stride4.

So there it is: that's stride4 in less than 200 words. No need to reed a book to get started!
With creativity, its often best to just get started and start feeding your brain with wide ranging factors to build on.   You can benifit from the stride4 steps straight away.
Even just doing step1 on its own could transform your progress!
Stride4 and it's steps are devised to be as fast, effective and easy as possible to try and do.
Go on. Give it a try!

If you are a team or business leader wanting to get more from you team, you don't have to have to be an expert in training or coaching you can just stride4 it straight away!.... the stride4 steps will give you instant structure to your team work in a way that encourages input, insights and ideas from all involved.

Stride4 tutorial - step 3 - 'Ideas'

Creating ideas, really good ideas, is what some would call a gift.
However, you can learn the art of creating great ideas on demand relatively easily. Its just a matter of learning good ways to trigger more relevant ideas. It can all be done with some simple thinking steps together with capturing your thoughts on paper as you progress.

Stride4 tutorial - step 2 - 'Reality Check'

The 'reality check' is the 'r' in st-'r'-ide4. It's the part of stride4 I get most excited about. It builds on the first step of stride4 'set target'.

The 'Reality Check is designed to get you thinking, to get you questioning your assumptions. You could 'reality check' the assumptions you just made minutes ago about what is important for solving a problem. Or at the other extreme, you could reality check the things that you, your business, or your industry may have been doing on autopilot for years.

Stride4 tutorial - step 1 - 'Set Target'

If your going to get anywhere worthwhile, you need to have some idea of where you are heading.
Life's too short to leave your destinations to chance. You need to have your goal.

Be it a business/work target or a life's ambition, to get what you want, you need to 'Set your Target' and get on with it!

'Set Target' is the 's-t.' of the 'st-ride4' creativity tool.

'Set Target' is fundamentally the same as the vast majority of problem solving and personal progression methods out there in that they typically start with setting the goal for the task at hand.

About stride4

stridelogo5.png

Hello and welcome to stride4.net
I'm David Field.
I am a product designer with a mission and with a passion for the psychology of design. I have turned his attention to creative team working methods.  My goal has been to 'design' a better approach to team working.  An approach that all members of a team can quickly tune into.
The result is stride4.
As a product designer, my approach to stride4 has been to devise it as a product that people can immediately understand, use and benefit from.
No time for advanced techniques
I have worked for big corporates, entrepreneurial and professional services companies. Apart from the occasional brainstorming session in my work with others, there has been little time for advanced creativity and problem solving methods.  The approach has always been to get the maximum number of projects done in the minimum number of hours.  No time for advanced techniques. And certainly no time for training it into the teams.  And besides, the Boss usually knows what the solution should be!  Does that sound familiar to you too?!  I bet you this situation is typical of the majority of businesses of the western world.
Project decisions are crucial though
As a design professional however I am acutely aware of the impact and dangers of early on project decisions or running with a poor idea. Often the first and only idea.  A little up front thinking leading to better ideas can pay dividends. Literally!
Stride4 is that fast solution that people and teams can quickly tune into and use to get better focused and relevant ideas
Stride4 is a creative thinking technique to enable you to powerfully focus your thoughts to make better progress on your projects.  'Stride' stands for Set Target, Reality check, Ideas, Develop, Engage.  It's a 'Design Thinking' process.
I am in no great hurry to give up my mechanical product design job just yet.  I love it too much.
Whilst I love my product design job, I can also see the huge potential for stride4.
I have big plans for it to be introduced to and used by a large chunk of the working population and beyond.
So to get stride4 to a large audience and have as many people and business enjoying working productively,  I am keen to support people trying the stride4 approach.
You may be a business team trying stride4ing for the first time,
or you may be a professional training and coaching company who can see opportunities in including stride4 in your portfolio.
Either way, please do get in touch.
