Let's Blog... Here's how I created stride4.

In 2000, I first started working on the ideas that have developed into the stride4 creativity tool.

As I saw the internet unfolding, I decided to be part of it. It was too big an opportunity to miss. Having spent my career in product design and design management I had a lot of experience to draw on the topics of design and design business strategy. So this was to be my nich, but I wanted to do more than just a topical website.

I started by purchasing a web address of 'theknowledgeworkerstoolkit' and set about reading loads of business and psychology books and creating the knowledge working tools. I spent a couple of weeks searching though the my dictionary for acronym words that will fit with really good rules of thumb for knowledge working.

Stride4 tutorial - step 3 - 'Ideas'

Creating ideas, really good ideas, is what some would call a gift.
However, you can learn the art of creating great ideas on demand relatively easily. Its just a matter of learning good ways to trigger more relevant ideas. It can all be done with some simple thinking steps together with capturing your thoughts on paper as you progress.

Stride4 tutorial - step 2 - 'Reality Check'

The 'reality check' is the 'r' in st-'r'-ide4. It's the part of stride4 I get most excited about. It builds on the first step of stride4 'set target'.

The 'Reality Check is designed to get you thinking, to get you questioning your assumptions. You could 'reality check' the assumptions you just made minutes ago about what is important for solving a problem. Or at the other extreme, you could reality check the things that you, your business, or your industry may have been doing on autopilot for years.

Stride4 tutorial - step 1 - 'Set Target'

If your going to get anywhere worthwhile, you need to have some idea of where you are heading.
Life's too short to leave your destinations to chance. You need to have your goal.

Be it a business/work target or a life's ambition, to get what you want, you need to 'Set your Target' and get on with it!

'Set Target' is the 's-t.' of the 'st-ride4' creativity tool.

'Set Target' is fundamentally the same as the vast majority of problem solving and personal progression methods out there in that they typically start with setting the goal for the task at hand.

Find your ideas and progress by 'design'

In my job as an engineer and product designer, every day, I have to come up with progressive solutions to keep myself and my employers ahead of the competition.

After twenty years and six industries of designing solutions, the process has become second nature... I'm always looking to find those neat solutions that elegantly do the job.

Reflecting back now, I realize the solutions finding process is a 'designing' process; you design your solutions. And its a process that is summarized by just four basic steps.
